First measurements of CFC-113 and HCFC-142b from space using ACE-FTS infrared spectra

چکیده
[1] The first measurements of CFC-113 (CCl2FCClF2) and HCFC-142b (CH3CClF2) from space have been performed by the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE), a satellite-based mission for remote sensing of the Earth’s atmosphere. Retrievals for the volume mixing ratio profiles of these two molecules have been performed for ACE-FTS measurements at mid-latitudes and in the tropics, and the results are compared with AGAGE surface measurements. The agreement between ACE and AGAGE mixing ratios is within 15% for both CFC-113 and HCFC-142b. Citation: Dufour, G., C. D. Boone, and P. F. Reductive dechlorination of chlorofluorocarbons and hydrochlorofluorocarbons in sewage sludge and aquifer sediment microcosms.
The reductive transformation of the 10 most-widely distributed fluorinated volatile compounds and of tetrachloroethene was investigated for up to 177 days under anaerobic conditions in sewage sludge and aquifer sediment slurries. Concentrations of parent compounds and of degradation products were identified by GC-MS. We observed transformation of CFC-11 to HCFC-21 and HCFC-31, of CFC-113 to HCF...
متن کاملStratospheric lifetimes of CFC-12, CCl4, CH4, CH3Cl and N2 from measurements made by the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment-Fourier Transform Spectrometer (ACE-FTS)
Long lived halogen-containing compounds are important atmospheric constituents since they can act both as a source of chlorine radicals, which go on to catalyse ozone loss, and as powerful greenhouse gases. The long-term impact of these species on the ozone layer is dependent on their stratospheric lifetimes. Using observations from the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment Fourier Transform Spectro...
متن کاملThe ACE - FTS atlas of the infrared solar spectrum
The ACE-FTS is a space-borne Fourier transform spectrometer onboard SCISAT-1. The satellite was launched in August 2003 and since February 2004the ACE-FTS has been performing solar occultation measurements since February 2004 in order to infer the chemical composition of the terrestrial atmosphere. The individual spectra recorded at the highest limb tangent altitudes (above 160 km) are by defin...

[1] The CalNex 2010 (California Research at the Nexus of Air Quality and Climate Change) study was designed to evaluate the chemical composition of air masses over key source regions in California. During May to June 2010, air samples were collected on board a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) WP-3D aircraft over the South Coast Air Basin of California (SoCAB) and the Centr...
متن کاملValidation of HNO3, ClONO2, and N2O5 from the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment Fourier Transform Spectrometer (ACE-FTS)
The Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE) satellite was launched on 12 August 2003. Its two instruments measure vertical profiles of over 30 atmospheric trace gases by analyzing solar occultation spectra in the ultraviolet/visible and infrared wavelength regions. The reservoir gases HNO3, ClONO2, and N2O5 are three of the key species provided by the primary instrument, the ACE Fourier Transfor...
